Some of Cape Girardeau's baseball fields will get improvements in the coming days as part of a joint project between the city parks department, Cape Youth Baseball League and the Cement Masons Local 908.
The majority of the work began this weekend at Arena Park, but other projects include improvements at the Capaha Park youth fields. Concrete dugout pads will be poured at all of the fields.
The dugout improvements could be the start of other improvements to the youth fields, said Scott Williams, recreation supervisor for the parks department.
The department has done other projects with city youth leagues like CAYSA and the Cape Girls Softball League.
The city will pay for the majority of the project costs, with the youth baseball league paying for the remainder. The Cement Masons Local 908, youth league volunteers and parks staff will provide the labor.
