The Missouri Circuit Clerk's Association will gather in Cape Girardeau today for its annual convention.

Cape County Circuit Clerk Charles P. Hutson, who is hosting the event, said he anticipates between 80 and 90 of Missouri's 114 circuit clerk's to attend the convention.

The last time the convention was in Cape Girardeau was 1982.

The convention will open at 10 a.m. this morning at Drury Lodge. Cape Girardeau Mayor Gene Rhodes will welcome the clerks at a noon luncheon.

Tonight, the clerks will take buses to New Madrid where they will eat at the home of colleague Van Sharp, who has been circuit clerk of New Madrid County for over 40 years.

Training sessions will be held all day Thursday, with the closing session planned for Friday morning.

Sessions will be provided by representatives of many of the state offices the clerks deal with on a regular basis.

Among those providing programs will be: Paul Herman, chief state supervisor of the Missouri Board of Probation and Parole; Lew Kollias, of the Missouri Public Defender's Office; Deputy Secretary of State Marvin Gillock; Sandy Gillmore, manager of benefits for the Missouri State Retirement System; Jack Dothage, assistant director of the Office of Administration's accounting division; Assistant Attorney General Mike Shortridge; and Sandy Hayton from the Office of State Court Administrator.

Programs are also planned on records management and microfilming of records.
