The congregation of Westminster Presbyterian Church will honor its pastor and his wife, the Rev. Miles and Caroline White, during an anniversary celebration Sunday morning. A brunch will be served after the worship service.
The Whites have been serving the Cape Girardeau church for 10 years. He is the fourth minister for the congregation that began in 1963.
He received his doctorate of ministry degree from McCormick Theological Seminary in Chicago after coming to Westminster.
During his tenure at Westminster, White has coordinated church officer retreats and lay renewal workshops. The congregation has made donations to community and global missions as well, including Habitat for Humanity and new church development in Guatemala.
White was ordained in 1984 after receiving a master of divinity degree from Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminary in Austin, Texas. He served in a suburban New Orleans church for five years before moving to Cape Girardeau in 1989.
White is active in the Cape Girardeau Ministerial Alliance and has served on the Cape Area Habitat for Humanity board. He is a member of the Cape County Rotary Club.
His wife, Caroline, is a teacher's assistant in the kindergarten classroom at Clippard Elementary School in Jackson. The couple have a son, a daughter and three grandchildren.
