CHS annual Black History Month Event

A limited, socially distant crowd attended the Cape Central High School annual Black History Month Event at the Kinder Performance Hall in Cape Girardeau on Thursday, Feb. 25, 2021. The event was organized and run by students, which featured performances and speeches highlighting Black history and culture. The program concluded with a video of and by Black students in which they spoke about what Black excellence means to them. One of the organizers of the event and a performer, Te'Mariah Dorsey, said, "All the events that happened this summer, as far as the George Flyod and the Black Lives Matter movement, like all the grieving thats been happening this summer, I just wanted a time to celebrate Black excellence. And I was like, this program is just a perfect time to celebrate, and lets not mourn anymore. Let's come together, and let's celebrate the achievements of Black people."
