The Southeast Missouri State University Choral Union will begin practicing Tuesday for a Nov. 28 performance of Leonard Bernstein's "Chichester Psalms" and Randol Allen Bass' "Gloria."
Tuesday evening rehearsals begin at 7 p.m. in the Choir Room of Brandt Music Hall on the campus.
Bernstein wrote "Chichester Psalms" for an English music festival. The text is compiled from various selections of the psalms and is sung in Hebrew with traditional Christian choral sound.
Bass' "Gloria" is a relatively new and unknown work.
Last season, the Choral Union performed John Rutter's "The Magnificat" and Carl Orff's "Carmina Burana" to sold-out audiences at Academic Auditorium.
Anyone is invited to join the organization, which includes members from the community, church choirs, and university students, faculty and staff.
The director is Dr. John Egbert, coordinator of choral and vocal studies at the university.
There are no fees to pay, no music to buy and no auditions are required for membership in the Choral Union.
Anyone interested in joining should phone Egbert at 651-2342 or the Department of Music at 651-2141.
