The Southeast Missouri State University Choral Union will begin its fall rehearsal schedule Aug. 24 for a late November performance of Handel's "Messiah."
Rehearsals will be held at 7 p.m. on Tuesday evenings in Room 205 of Brandt Music Hall. Participation is free, and music will be provided.
The Choral Union is open to community and church choir singers, as well as all university students, faculty and staff. John Egbert, coordinator of choral and vocal studies at Southeast, is the group's director.
"We have been so delighted with the results of these combined musical ventures Choral Union, University Choir and University Orchestra," Egbert said. "I would like to see even greater participation from our community. Those who have joined us have thoroughly enjoyed the experience.
"Many community singers are simply unaware that they can come to the university on Tuesday evenings and sing in this group. They do not have to enroll, pay any fees, or even audition.
"Our performances have been such tremendous successes," Egbert added. "The existence of this group provides the opportunity for everyone to perform some of the world's greatest music."
