JACKSON -- A chili supper fund raiser hosted by the Jackson Community Teachers Association netted about $1,800 in profits for two local organizations.
A check for $900 went to the Jackson Children's Fund, to provide items for needy school children in Jackson.
Another $900 was given to the Jackson Senior Nutrition Center. The center plans to use the money to buy three-day emergency food packs to be given to home-bound clients to use when regular deliveries of meals may be delayed.
The chili supper was held Nov. 6 at the Jackson High School. About 650 bowls of chili were served.
Dorothy Peetz, director of the Jackson Senior Nutrition Center, said, "We are so grateful to all the teachers for their support. This is the first time any community organization has helped us with a fund raiser. Our homebound funds frequently run out and this money will certainly extend our services."
