Betty Glastetter of Oran thinks she may be reliving a childhood dream of having a doll of her own with plenty of clothes. This retired seamstress's dream has certainly turned into something much larger. When she retired earlier this year she decided she would have to have a hobby of some sort. "I can't just set here," she said. Sewing seemed the obvious choice. Glastetter decided there would always be Barbie dolls and always be girls so that is where she placed her focus. "I can still be here with my husband (who retired several years ago) and can walk away from my projects whenever we want to do something together," she said.

Fabric for her clothes comes in the form of scraps from a friend who makes wedding dresses and from local quilters. She uses a basic pattern and then embellishes the garments which become her own unique creations. "The clothes are made to be played with," she said. Using Velcro fasteners makes it easier for little hands to dress the dolls. Although Glastetter does sell the clothes, she also donates to worthy causes such as dinner auctions held at local churches for families in need and the Oran Union Planters bank toy drive. Whenever Glastetter feels down, sewing just seems to perk her up. The look on the faces of the kids is her greatest reward.
