Three people escaped injury in an early morning fire Saturday. At 2:14 a.m., the Cape Girardeau Fire Department responded to the fire on lot 10 at 1927 N. Kingshighway in a house trailer occupied by Derrick Aldy and two children. The department's report said that one child awoke and noticed fire coming from a wall in the center bedroom. The child woke up the other family members, who then escaped through the rear door. Two smoke detectors were present in the house, but it was not confirmed whether they woke up the child. Authorities reported an estimated $6,500 in fire and smoke damage. The report said the location of the fire, damage and other evidence point to an electrical cause.
