A high-speed chase that began on Kingshighway in Cape Girardeau ended in Scott County with the arrest of a 26-year-old Oran, Mo., man.

According to Sgt. Larry Plunkett of the Missouri State Highway Patrol, state troopers and Scott City police picked up the chase around 1:26 a.m. Saturday on Interstate 55, where Jason Gibson was allegedly speeding southbound in the northbound lane. Plunkett said the suspect's van was traveling faster than 100 mph before a tire deflation device put down by police stopped it at mile marker 85.

"It was a very dangerous situation," Plunkett said. "We're glad nobody got hurt."

Gibson was arrested on suspicion of driving while intoxicated, Plunkett said, and on a variety of other offenses. He was booked into the Scott County Jail.
