CHARITY GOLF TOURNAMENT SET

Golfers will hit the green Aug. 12 for the fourth annual United Way Charity Golf Tournament, and a lucky player may walk away $5,000 richer.

The tournament, to be held at the Cape Girardeau Country Club, is expected to raise over $10,000 for the annual United Way fundraising campaign.

Neal Edwards is serving as chairman of tournament, which is sponsored by Biokyowa, Inc.

Edwards said, "This is our fourth year and the tournament has grown increasingly more successful. This year we expect to fill the field. If we get the 144 people in, it will be very successful."

The tournament is popular, Edwards believes, because golfers can compete against teams they normally don't compete against.

"And they may be lucky enough to win a buck," he said.

The tourney is a four-person scramble on 18 holes.

Cash prizes totaling $1,500 will be awarded to first, second, third and fourth place teams. Prizes will be awarded to the fifth and sixth place finishers.

Plus golfers on two holes have a chance to win $5,000.

If a player hits a hole-in-one on hole 13, he or she will win $5,000 courtesy of Boatmen's Bank. And if a golfer hits a hole-in-one on hole 16, he or she will win $5,000 courtesy of Mercantile Bank.

Other prizes will be awarded for the golfer closest to the line on hole 1 and those closest to the pin on 5, 7, 8, 11, 13 and 16.

All prizes have been donated by a variety of sponsors, Edwards said.
