Charges filed against two brothers after Tuesday police chase

Four felony charges were filed against a 30-year-old Cape Girardeau man Wednesday who led police officers on a car chase Tuesday through the city, while his brother was charged with drug possession in connection to the incident.

Officers began pursuing Jimmy A. Maglone around 9:30 a.m. after they thought he was in possession of methamphetamine at Capaha Park.

Maglone is charged with possession of a controlled substance with the intent to distribute, first-degree burglary, resisting arrest and leaving the scene of a motor vehicle accident causing injury or property damage.

Maglone is charged with burglary for allegedly going into a home on South Pacific Street in an attempt to escape from officers. Police arrested Maglone inside the home.

He's charged with resisting arrest by fleeing from Capaha Park, preventing officers from arresting him. He drove a white Dodge truck in reverse on Perry Avenue where he damaged a street sign.

He allegedly caused additional damage to Ken's Cape Cleaners on Broadway and to parked cars while fleeing police officers, resulting in the final charge of leaving the scene of an accident.

The second man arrested Tuesday, John Maglone, Jimmy Maglone's brother, arrived at the scene after police arrested Jimmy. John Maglone came to the scene because the Dodge truck driven by Jimmy Maglone was his property, police said. John Maglone was arrested on suspicion of carrying narcotics and charged Wednesday with possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute.

John Maglone is in custody on a $50,000 bond, and his brother, a prior offender, is in custody on a $125,000 bond.

In May 2006, Jimmy Maglone was convicted of felony theft and in November 2005 was convicted of receiving stolen property. Jimmy Maglone was also convicted of felony burglary in November 2002 and possession of a controlled substance in April 1997.
