Chapman has taught at Boca Raton (Fla.) High School for 10 years and serves as chairwoman of the art department. She attended Kansas City Art Institute and Southeast Missouri State University, where she received a bachelor's degree in art education. She earned a master's degree in secondary art equation from Florida International University, where she completed her last semester at Cambridge University in England.

Chapman is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. Ronald Fischer of Cape Girardeau.
