DELTA -- The Delta School District has consolidated three bus routes into two because of a bus driver shortage.
School Superintendent Larry Beshears said the change will go into effect Monday for the Randels, Dutchtown and Arbor routes.
Beshears said a letter to parents will be sent home with students affected by the changes. Information about the change also is available through the school's administration office.
Beshears said the board is considering dropping its bus routes because it has been difficult getting applications from potential bus drivers.
The board will consider a contract with Ryder Student Transportation early next year or at the beginning of the next school year, he said.
The board also has decided to direct traffic flow at the high school. The move was made to ensure increased safety for students getting off buses and more convenience for those visiting the school.
All incoming traffic to the high school will enter off McKinley Street, Beshears said. Traffic will exit the area onto Highway N, which will be marked with a "Do Not Enter" sign.
Signs denoting an area 1,000 feet from the school as a gun-free, drug-free zone have been placed in the area, Beshears said. Anyone violating this provision will now face stiffer penalties under the law.
Beshears also said the sign naming the elementary school in the honor of Mary Maude Hosea has been received. A sign-dedication ceremony honoring Hosea will be held when the weather is good.
