Telephone calls from Cape Girardeau, Jackson and Scott City to McClure, Ill. areas are still free, but customers must dial the area codes.
Southwestern Bell customers in the immediate Southeast Missouri area must now dial "618" to reach McClure area customers and residents of McClure must dial "314" to reach the Missouri areas.
The changes effect customers in Missouri with 190, 334, 335, 339, 651, 243 and 264 prefixes.
Calls will remain as local service and will not require the number "1," which is used for long distance.
Bell explained that the dial changes were implemented because telephone exchanges in the affected areas have been exhausted.
