Sights, sounds and smells of barbecue will fill the air in Arena Park Aug. 26 and 27 at the second annual Cape BBQ Fest sponsored by the Agri-Business Committee of the Cape Girardeau Chamber of Commerce.
A cook-off will be the main activity. Cook-off teams will prepare beef kebabs, hamburger, beef brisket, pork Boston butts, pork ribs and whole hog to compete for prizes and awards. There is a $25 entry fee.
Cape Girardeau County Health Department rules prohibit beef and pork cooked for the contest being made available to the public. However, members of the Agri-Business Committee are arranging for samples of barbecued pork and beef to be given to the public. The teams will be judged Aug. 27.
Other events at the festival include a washer-pitching contest, a kiddie tractor pull contest, a rolling-pin throw and a watermelon-eating contest.
If interested in participating in the cook-off, call Don Beckham at 334-9009 or Linda Minner at 335-3312. Rules and entry forms are available at the Cape Girardeau Chamber of Commerce office.
