The Cape Girardeau Chamber of Commerce has crystal apples to give to excellent educators.
Educators will be chosen from the categories of elementary, secondary, vocational-technical and administration to be the 1997 Educators of the Year.
It is the fourth year the awards have been given.
Anyone may recommend an educator they believe strives for excellence. The educator will then be forwarded an application. A special committee appointed by the Chamber of Commerce Education Committee will review qualified applications, conduct interviews and choose winners in each category.
Full-time educators in public, private, parochial or business schools within the Cape Girardeau city limits may be a candidate. School personnel whose duties are primarily administrative or supervisory, such as principals, guidance counselors or librarians, are eligible under the administration category.
Winners will be honored at a dinner and receive the crystal apple of recognition. Honorees also will receive a cash award of $500 per category.
The deadline for receiving nominations is Dec. 16. Completed applications are due back to the chamber office by March 3, 1997.
The 1997 award honorees will be announced April 11, and the awards dinner will be held May 1.
