All that work planting flowers, mowing the grass, and trimming the edges could lead to more than just a beautiful lawn. It could result in "Yard of the Month" honors.

The annual competition will begin in April and end in October. The Cape Girardeau Chamber of Commerce office is now accepting nominations for lawns to be considered.

Each month, two residential and one non-residential yard are selected by members of the Chamber's Beautification Committee. A sign designating the award is displayed in the winning yards and a certificate is sent to each recipient.

The committee has designated seven major areas of the city of Cape Girardeau and will rotate the awards throughout the primary growing season among these seven areas. The first designation will come from section five.

Residents may call in their nominations to the chamber office at 335-3312 or send a letter to the chamber office at P.O. Box 98, Cape Girardeau, Mo., 63702-0098.
