Chaffee and Delta high schools are participating in the Veterans of Foreign Wars "Voice of Democracy" college scholarship program.

The Program is open to all 10th, 11th and 12th grade students who want to try for the prize. Top national prizes are $20,000, $15,000 and $10,000 scholarships.

Local prizes, furnished by Adna R. Chaffee VFW Post No. 3127, are a $100 savings bond for first prize, a $50 bond for second prize and a $25 bond for third prize for the winners in each high school.

The theme this year is "My Vision for America."

The written essay can take between than three and five minutes to deliver on a cassette tape.

Students must submit their entries before Nov. 15. Post judging will take place between Nov. 16 and Nov. 30. The district deadline is Dec. 15, and the department entry is due Jan. 10 and Department winner information must be sent to National Headquarters by Jan. 15.

Charles Goddard, Voice of Democracy chairman for VFW Post 3127, and Dolly Aubuchon, chairperson for the Auxiliary, are coordinating with the schools. Joy Cutler-Garner is the supervising teacher of the program in Chaffee High School and Sandy Bollinger is the contact for Delta High School.
