CHAFFEE, Mo. -- The Chaffee Police Department is getting some help from the Scott County Sheriff's Department as the city tries to find new officers to fill several vacancies.

Four Scott County deputies -- Paul Dirden, Jeff Schmitt, Roy Moore and Branden Cald -- will help the city in the interim, according to a report in the Scott County Signal weekly newspaper printed Sunday. The report said the city has received several applications for its vacant positions in a statement attributed to Mayor Loretta Mohorc. No information was given as to whether these deputies will patrol Chaffee full-time.

The vacancies stem from the recent resignations of three officers and police chief Martin Keys.

The city council will meet tonight at 7 p.m. at City Hall, where the Southeast Missourian will seek an update on the situation from city leaders.
