A man broke a window, entered Hutson's Fine Furniture at 43 S. Main St. and was discovered sleeping on a couch by an employee early Friday morning, police say.
Officers smelled alcohol coming from Jordan D. White, 21, of Chaffee, Mo., who was arrested at the scene and charged with two felonies, one for burglary and one for property damage to a couch, chair, love seat and the window where he entered, said Darin Hickey, spokesman for the Cape Girardeau Police Department. Damages were estimated to be in excess of $750.
White was being held on a $12,000 bond Friday afternoon at the Cape Girardeau Police Department, pending transfer to the Cape Girardeau County Jail. White was arrested in 2011 and in 2012 for suspicion of possession of alcohol when he was a minor.
