CHAFFEE, Mo. -- The Chaffee license office was among the most recent set of six state license offices offered to bidders. The Missouri Department of Revenue announced that it is accepting bids to operate the license office in Chaffee as part of an ongoing process of making the offices, once political plums handed out by governors, more responsive to taxpayers. Private contractors operate the offices, keeping fees paid by motorists for licenses and registration in addition to the state-mandated costs.
The Chaffee office handled an estimated 29,795 transactions in the most recently completed year, earning about $95,732 for current operator Dee Cookson. Bids are due by June 23.
