CHAFFEE - Two municipal races are on tap in the City of Chaffee for the April 2 general election.

One race has developed for the mayor's seat, where two city residents are challenging incumbent Mayor Ron Moyers. The other race will take place in Ward 2 between incumbent Ed Gauthier and Janet Sullivan, of 111 North Third.

The filing period for all city seats that are up for election closed Tuesday.

Challenging Moyers is former Mayor Robert Capshaw, of 127 South Main, and Bill Goad, of 324 West Parker. In April 1987, Moyers unseated Capshaw by a vote of 549 to 351.

The seat carries a four-year term.

Chaffee City Clerk Diane Eftink said Sullivan filed as a candidate against Gauthier last Friday. As with the rest of the city's council seats that are up for election, Gauthier's seat carries a two-year term.

Gauthier has served on the board for four years and is seeking a third term.

Also running for re-election in addition to Gauthier are Ward 1 Councilman Bill Cannon and Ward 4 Councilman Tom Cunningham. Both candidates are unchallenged.

Danny Finley, of 118 Gray, is running unopposed for the seat held by Councilman Marcus Lauck of Ward 3. Lauck chose not to file for re-election.

Two races have developed as well over three seats on the Scott County R-2 Board of Education in Chaffee. Those seats, two of which carry three-year terms, will also be voted on April 2.

The three-year seats up for election are those held by Larry Meyr and Dale Tierney. They have filed for re-election and are being challenged by Sharon Crowden, of the community of Rockview.

Tierney filed for re-election Jan. 22, said a district spokesperson.

The spokesperson said Gregg L. Ourth, of South Second Street, had filed for election to the three-year unexpired term of former board member James Dooley. Dooley, 40, died in October. One year remains on his term.

Also running for the seat is Jerry Wolsey, of 107 West Clarman Drive. Wolsey is a member of the Chaffee City Council, representing Ward 1.
