Central High School's marching band will perform in Missouri governor-elect Jay Nixon's inauguration parade Jan. 12 in Jefferson City, Mo. This is the third time the band has been invited to perfom in such a parade.

About 90 students from Central will march, joining at least seven other high school bands from across the state. Students will begin practicing after school after the winter holiday.

The band won every competition it entered this season, which may have contributed to its invitation.

"We couldn't have asked for a more successful season, and I think that gives you a little notoriety," said director Neil Casey.

Casey said the band will most likely play some of its music from the winning season, along with "America the Beautiful."

The parade will begin at 10 a.m. at 214 Adams St. Buses will leave Cape Girardeau at 4 a.m., and students will return the same day. Casey hopes students will be able to tour the Capitol after their performance.

"If the weather's not brutal, it will be a good experience," Casey said.

"We're proud to represent the school and community."
