CAPE GIRARDEAU -- Cape Central High Schools speech team captured second place honors in the district speech contest held March 22-23.
Earning the first place Sweepstakes Award in the competition was the team from Poplar Bluff. Doniphan's team placed third.
Winning first place honors for Cape Central were: Gabe Hinkebein and Takara Stanley for cross examination debate and Mala Ahuja in Lincoln Douglas debate.
Jason Green placed second in extemporaneous speaking. Lori Eakin placed third in original oratory category.
Emily Wipfler of Scott City high School earned first place honors for storytelling.
Nineteen schools participated in the contest.
