Cape Girardeau Central High School's Scholar Bowl team captured first place in the large-school division of Southeast Missouri district competition.
The regional competition was held Saturday at Cape Central. Eight high schools competed. Those competing besides Cape Central were Jackson, Poplar Bluff, Salem, Potosi, New Madrid, Perryville and North St. Francois County.
The Cape squad defeated Poplar Bluff in the final round to win the district title for the second year in a row. The team will now compete in the state tournament, which will be held in Jefferson City on May 8.
The Cape Central team members are Jason Leggett, Joe Niswonger, Yung Park, Sabrina Renka, Chris Robertson, Rene Robinson, Andrew Trueblood and Jennifer Worth.
Among those named to the all-district team were Beth Farrow of Jackson, and Trueblood and Leggett of Cape Central.
