The fourth Miles for Meals Walk-A-Thon held May 16 at the Jackson City Park netted more than $6,700 for the Jackson Senior Center in pledges.
Prizes were awarded to walkers and volunteers. Illa Niswonger received a special award in honor of her collecting the most money from individual sponsors. Gilbert Leimer and Lester Maevers also received a special award for collecting the most money from corporate sponsors.
The event is the largest fund-raiser for the center and the proceeds will go directly to the nutrition program.
The center serves an average of 3,500 meals per month. That breaks down to approximately 163 a day, with 90 served at the center and 50 delivered to residents in Jackson and 30 delivered to residents in north Cape Girardeau County.
For information on how to get involved in next year's Miles for Meals or how to become a volunteer to help deliver homebound meals contact the Jackson Senior Center and ask for Debbie Stockton.
