Commercial drivers who have not obtained their commercial driver's license can take the written portion of the test Saturday during group testing at the Teamsters Local 574 meeting hall, 429 Broadview.

Charlie Deal, secretary-treasurer of Local 574, said the testing will begin at 9 a.m. under the supervision of CDL test examiners from the Missouri Highway Patrol.

Deal said monthly group CDL testing has been held at the union meeting hall during the past 12 months. "The March 21 test date will probably be the last group testing conducted at the union meeting hall before the April 1 deadline," said Deal. "We're trying to make every effort to accommodate all the drivers who need to take their CDL tests before the deadline."

Deal said membership in the Teamsters is not required to take the group test.

"Most drivers taking the written part of the test at the union meeting hall have passed with little difficulty," Deal said. "They seem to feel more comfortable being in a group, and we are pleased to help them."

Because the highway patrol limits the size of each test group to 50 drivers, Deal advised those planning to take the test Saturday to call the union office, 334-2836, to register and be assured of having a place in the group.

"Before testing begins, the Teamsters will serve rolls and coffee, starting at 8 a.m.," he said.

Deal said there is no charge for the group testing service. "Drivers will only pay their usual fees when they apply to the license bureau for their CDLs" he said.
