A cash box filled with business checks was stolen from Innovative Orthodontics, 2103 Broadway Street, during a burglary Thursday morning, according to Cape Girardeau police.
Cape Girardeau Police Department spokesman Sgt. Jason Selzer said police found evidence of a break in during a routine drive-by at 12:51 a.m.
"One of our officers drove by and heard the audible alarm sound," Selzer said. "He noticed a hole in the window on the side of the building that looked large enough for a person to crawl through."
Selzer said police believe a landscaping brick was used to break the window, and the officer who found the damage got to the scene within minutes of the crime.
Selzer said police have no suspects at this time.
"It just looks like a crime of opportunity at this point, but there's always the chance that it was a person who knew what they were looking for," Selzer said. "We'll approach it from all angles until we find out who did it."
Dr. Terry Spence, of Innovative Orthodontics, declined to comment.
Police are still investigating the incident.
