Case against murder suspect set for March

The first-degree murder case against a Dexter, Mo., man is set to go to trial in March.

Glen Scott Evans faces two counts of armed criminal action and one count each of first-degree murder and first-degree robbery in connection with the shooting death of Sean Crow, 34, a heavy equipment operator whose body was found Feb. 20 in a red pickup truck outside a fast-food restaurant in Advance, Mo.

Judge William Syler on Monday set the case for jury trial beginning March 11, with a pretrial conference March 3.

Another Dexter man, Matt Cook, faces identical charges in the case.

Earlier this month, Syler rejected a defense motion to suppress statements Evans made to police a few days after the shooting.

During a motion hearing Dec. 12, Evans and his attorney, James McClellan, argued Evans was too drunk and sleep-deprived to know what he was doing when he waived his Miranda rights and talked to police just after 3 a.m. Feb. 24.

McClellan has said Evans was charged as an accessory and is accused of driving Cook to Advance but had no idea Cook was planning a murder.

During a recess at the Dec. 12 hearing, Evans' mother, Glynis, said her son was known as a good Samaritan who routinely helped other people.

"Scott knows everybody, and any time anybody would have a flat or run out of gas, who do they call?" she said.

Cook's case is set for a status hearing Monday in Dunklin County. Both defendants had their cases moved from Stoddard County, Mo.
