Literacy programs administered by agencies of the Area Wide United Way received about $4,182 of the money raised by the YELL for Newspapers campaign. From left, seated, were Kim McDowell of the Southeast Missourian, one of the program's sponsors; Susan Wallis of the Association for Retarded Citizens, $1,500, and Nancy Stiegemeyer of the Lutheran Family and Children's Services, $810. Standing were Craig Felzien, president, Area Wide United Way; Sheldon Tyler of the Cape Girardeau Civic Center Learning Society, $750; Mary Burton of the American Red Cross, $315, and Millie Turner of the Otahki Girl Scouts, $621.
