Published March 11, 1991. Dr. Arthur Turner and his wife, Anne, talked with guests Gary and Joy Gilbert during a reception for Turner at the Show Me Center. The reception was sponsored by the Cape Girardeau Community Teachers Association. Turner left his position as superintendent of Cape Girardeau's public schools that summer. Published Dec. 18, 1989. May Greene Elementary School first-grade students Pariss Ware, left, and Abeer Katanani had their temperatures taken by school nurse Janet Watkins. Over 500 students were absent from Cape Girardeau Public Schools the Friday before, mostly due to flu-like illness. Published Jan. 10, 1991. The sun tried to peek through where fog and ice met at the Cape Girardeau riverfront on the Mississippi River in the morning. The river stage was at 21.5 feet and falling. A year earlier, the river stood at 5.7 feet and rising. (Mark Sterkel ~ Southeast Missourian archive)

Published Dec. 10, 1966 This school bus had just been pulled from the ditch at left, when it became mired in mud where a sewer line crossed the street. The bus was carrying 10 to 20 Cape Girardeau seventh graders when the mishap occurred on Vincent Avenue. Here a grader operator fixed a chain to the front of the muddied bus to pull it free from the mire. A city machine had pulled the vehicle from the ditch. (Southeast Missourian archive)

Published Jan. 26, 1989. Peer Helpers at L.J. Schultz School practiced an orientation tour for a new student. Here, Lance Haman, Danielle Roussel and Grant Bullinger pointed out the up arrows of the up staircase to Zaklya Driver, who was portraying a new student.
