A Cape Girardeau police officer, Patrolman James Crites, was injured this morning when the police car in which he was a passenger collided with another car at the intersection of Broadway and Highway 61. Surveying the damage are Police Chief Irvin E. Beard (behind red light), Warren Strack, city fire inspector, Lt. Glen W. Volkerding of the Police Department and Burette O. Beal of Glen Allen, who was driving the other car. (Southeast Missourian archive)

Three to four inches of snow fell overnight in Jackson during a snowstorm that covered a 50-mile strip in Southeast Missouri and Southern Illinois. Cape Girardeau, on the southern fringe of the snowstorm, only received a dusting. (Southeast Missourian archive photo)
