A motorist slowed down to steer through the jog in the road on North Main Street at the site of the old Florsheim Shoe factory. The city planned to straighten the road the following year, after clearing plans with the Cape Girardeau Chamber of Commerce and the Missouri Highway Department. (Southeast Missourian archive)

People greeted the "Cotton Belt Star" steam locomotive 819 in Scott City, where the train spent the night after its trip from Pine Bluff, Arkansas, on its way to a railroading convention at Union Station in St. Louis.
