Gerecke Thursday during Gerecke's retirement open house at the Johnson Faculty Center at Southeast. Also shown at left is Mike Fichter, associate professor of criminal justice. A ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new foot bridge at Shawnee Park was held today. Cape Area Youth Soccer Association President Barry Zerbe presented a check in the amount of $9,000 to the city for its participation in the bridge. From left are Steve Bone, Parks and Recreation Department director; J. Ronald Fischer, city manager; Al Stoverink, assistant city manager; Bob Hendrix, president, Cape Girardeau Chamber of Commerce, and Zerbe. (Southeast Missourian archive)
