From 88 applications the council will select finalists who will be interviewed this week. The City Council hopes to hire a new city manager within a week. Published Feb. 7, 1993. St. Vincent de Paul grade-school kindergartener Lauren Mehner chooses a Raggedy Ann doll after her ticket was drawn Friday during a "Trash to Treasure" white elephant raffle. Four hundred and three students brought items to be raffled and bought 12 tickets for $1 with hopes their tickets would be drawn to choose a prize. Published Dec. 1, 1958. This car glanced into the Thompson establishment on Highway 61 just south of the Broadway junction early Sunday night, doing considerable damage. The driver was Earl Crites Jr., 34, of Cape Girardeau who was going south. He said a car in front of him started to the left when Crites was about to pass and there was a minor collision.
