Published Oct. 28, 1980. Cape Girardeau County Court Associate Judge Leonard F. Sander displays one of the county's new blue and gold road signs. County highway department crews are expected to begin installing the 600 county road signs this week. The signs are similar to county road markers used in Stoddard County. Published Dec. 19, 1980. The world loves a clown, and Monty King is no exception. Monty, a pediatrics patient at Southeast Missouri Hospital, was among youngsters entertained at a Christmas party this week by the Rev. E.C. Brasington, part-time clown and full-time pastor at First Presbyterian Church here. He had taken part in a workshop in church recreation not too long ago, and since that time has put what he learned to happy use. "When I'm in clown makeup and driving a car, I drive very carefully," he said. "People start staring and forget to pay attention. It's especially fun to pull up to a stoplight next to a car with a child in it. The child, of course, gets excited, and the parents can't figure out why, until they look my way, too." Published June 12, 1980. Houses have been moved before, but few with as much TLC as this Victorian playhouse built by Harold Sinn Construction Co. A police escort led the procession from Riverside West, where the playhouse was built, along Gordonville Road to Saint Francis Medical Center, where it will be on display. Blueprints for the house were by the Century 21 Key Realty staff. It will be given away to a fortunate youngster. Published Nov. 9, 1992. Participants in Sunday's Veterans Day parade advance westward on Broadway. The parade was part of Cape Girardeau's early observance of the holiday, which officially is Wednesday. Following the parade, a ceremony was held at Freedom Corner in Capaha Park.
