Mayor Paul Stehr tees off from one of the new greens which were officially reopened at the Cape Girardeau Municipal Golf Course Monday, extending the facility to an 18-hole course. A program of redesign was started when the city assumed the operation of the links in 1977. The course had previously been operated by the Cape Jaycees. Several city officials and members of the Golf Course Board were on hand for the opening ceremonies. They included, from left, Don Strohmeyer, Robert Gass, Larry Essner, Tony Sebek, Jerry Brey, John Baker, Clyde Schwab and Robert Herbst. (Fred Lynch ~ Southeast Missourian archive)

Winners of the Riverfest "Tom and Becky Contest" were announced Friday night by Dr. Bill W. Stacy, president of Southeast Missouri State University. Here, he introduces "Tom," who is Chuck Groshong, and "Becky," who is Jennifer Braswell.
