Even though his car apparently stalled in high water near Broadway and Caruthers, the soggy conditions didn't keep this persistent hiker from getting to work. Thunderstorms brought heavy rains that flooded many Cape Girardeau streets on Aug. 10, 1992. Almost an inch of rain fell in a 40-minute period at the airport and more than an inch fell in the city. About 75 people arrived at the Oliver House in Jackson for dessert on the last stop of a dinner tour of historic sites in the area. The event was co-sponsored by the Jackson Heritage Association and the Historical Association of Greater Cape Girardeau.
