Published Feb. 2, 1992. Paul Schnare, left, stood with Ramona and Bill Brinkopf in the greenhouse at Sunny Hill Garden Center at 335 Christine. Published Feb. 9, 1992. While the Jackson School District struggled to keep its head above financial water, student enrollment continued to increase each year as the district grew. Here, students got off their bus at the Orchard Drive Elementary School, which was completed in 1991 to handle the projected increase in elementary-age students through the end of the decade. Published Feb. 13, 1992. U.S. Rep. Bill Emerson was the featured speaker at the Cape Girardeau Lions Club luncheon meeting at the Holiday Inn. Emerson, who had served in Congress for 12 years, said he expected to file in Jefferson City for his seventh term. (Southeast Missourian archive)

Published Feb. 14, 1992. Don Semancik, seated, manager of Midwest Weather Services at the Cape Girardeau Municipal Airport, prepared to transmit his hourly weather reading while Larry Swader, left, and Freddie Ford, moved his desk into the weather office's temporary quarters in a mobile home outside the airport terminal building. Other offices in the terminal building were relocated to temporary quarters outside the building, so that work could begin on a $1.1 million renovation project. Published Jan. 3, 1992. Frank Stinnett, owner of Stinnett's Produce Inc., in Cape Girardeau, looked over a case of lettuce in his warehouse cooler. Stinnett supplied produce to over 100 area restaurants. Area suppliers were saying that produce was abundant, and the quality was as good as ever after the white fly destroyed a portion of the California crop.
