CAPE WOMAN TO TOURISM MEETING

The executive director of the Colonial Cape Girardeau Foundation will participate in the first-ever White House conference on travel and tourism.

The conference in Washington, D.C., begins Sunday and ends Tuesday.

Schneider was chosen by U.S. Rep. Bill Emerson to attend the conference.

She was selected for her historic preservation and cultural efforts in Cape Girardeau as they relate to tourism.

Schneider said the conference will focus on developing a national strategy for the travel and tourism industry.

The travel and tourism industry ranks second nationally, employing 13 million people directly and indirectly. The industry contributes $417 billion annually to the nation's economy.
