The temperature hit triple digits Wednesday in Cape Girardeau for the 10th time this July.
At 1:56 p.m. the temperature hit 100 degrees at the Cape Girardeau Regional Airport, according to National Weather Service readings. The forecast at one point called for the high to reach 102, but the temperature fell short of that mark, tying the 100-degree record high for July 25 set in 1986.
An excessive heat warning remains in effect through 7 p.m. today, though the temperature was not expected to reach 100.
Tuesday's high also reached 100 degrees, which fell short of the record for the date.
So far this summer there have been 13 days when highs reached at least 100 degrees.
