Teacher Appreciation Day, sponsored by various Missouri business organizations and educational institutions, was planned to give the scholars an opportunity to recognize and thank the teachers who influenced them the most in their lives.

Cook was presented a certificate of appreciation during a banquet by Robert Bartman, Missouri commissioner of education. Following the recognition banquet, Nancy Johnson, a national consultant in gifted education, addressed the teachers and scholars.

The academy is conducted by the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education in cooperation with the University of Missouri-Columbia.
