Stephen S. Owen of Cape Girardeau has been awarded a Regents' Scholarship to attend Southeast Missouri State University during the 1992-1993 academic year.
The Regents' Scholarship is awarded to high school seniors who graduate in the top 10 percent of their class and who score above the 90th percentile on the ACT or SAT test. The award covers full-time fees per semester and is renewable for four years.
Owen is the son of Ray and Sally Owen of Cape Girardeau and will be a 1992 graduate of Cape Central High School. There, he has been active as vice president of the Speech and Debate Club, and as treasurer of the Patriotic Club and Future Teachers of America. Last fall, he served as chief delegate for the Model United Nations.
He was recipient of the DAR American history award in 1991 and the DAR Good Citizen award in 1992.
In May, he will graduate in an Academic Honors Curriculum. He is a member of the National Honor Society and an honor roll student. He plans to major in secondary education at Southeast, with emphasis on mathematics, social studies and speech.
