The Knowledge Master teams at Cape Girardeau Central Junior High School placed first in Missouri and fourth in national competition.
The Central High team placed tenth in the state and 230 nationally in high school competition.
The Knowledge Master Open is an academic competition involving schools across the nation. The event is run on Apple computers. Computers tally the students' scores based on speed and accuracy.
The 200 multiple choice questions cover all secondary school disciplines.
The Central Junior High team scored 1,757 of a possible 2,000 points by answering 198 questions correctly.
Central High scored 1,440 points, answering 183 questions correctly.
Members of the junior high team are eighth graders: Cabell Gathman, Marcus Jones, Ben Lowrance, Erik Morse, Nora Renka, Christy Hey, and ninth graders: Josh Arnzen, Kyle Dellamano, Jeremy Driskell, Elizabeth Green, Dustin Gross, Troy Hooper, Elizabeth Kunz, Josh Morgan, Trent Redfearn, Beth Shivelbine and Vicki Ventrella. Dixie Cook is their coach.
High school team members are sophomores Bart Elfrink, Matt Jones, Paul Kranawetter, and Nanda Somarajan; junior Sabrina Renka; and seniors Jason Leggett, Bo Ogborn and Yung Park. Ann Bartlett is their coach.
