Out-of-district tuition for students attending the Cape Girardeau School District will increase for the third year in a row, bringing the district more in line with state recommendations.

During a meeting of mostly informational reports, the board voted in the increase Monday. For the first time in at least eight years, the tuition rate matches recommendations from the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education. The figure is based on district expenditures and attendance numbers. In previous years, the tuition rate was below state recommendations.

The new rate, $8,264, is an increase of $912 from last year's rate of $7,352. It mostly affects the Nell Holcomb School District. Kindergarten through eighth-grade districts pay to send students to adjoining districts.
