The Cape Girardeau School District is one of 28 Missouri districts recognized by a national school selection firm. The district received the "What Parents Want" award from SchoolMatch, an Ohio-based consulting firm that ranks school systems.
The bulk of the list is made up of schools in the St. Louis and Kansas City area. Cape Girardeau is the only Southeast Missouri school that made the list.
"We believe these schools, large and small, can serve as role models in how school districts are consistently providing value to parents and students in their communities, as well as those who are considering relocation to Missouri," said Chris Nicastro, commissioner of education, in a statement.
According to the firm, 16 percent of 15,571 public school districts nationwide received the recognition. Since 1992, SchoolMatch has given the award to districts that meet the needs of families choosing schools.
