Voters in the Cape Girardeau School District will have a chance to meet candidates for the Board of Education during a forum at Washington Elementary School, 621 N. Fountain, at 7 p.m. Thursday. It is sponsored by the League of Women Voters.
In addition to board candidates, Keith Russell, a member of the Cape Girardeau City Charter Commission, will talk about 10 changes in the City Charter ordinances to be decided by voters.
Candidates seeking election to the board are incumbents Robert Blank and Steve Wright and newcomer, the Rev. William Bird. They are running unopposed for three, three-year seats on the board. Incumbent Harry E. Rediger faces challenger Jacqueline Sproat for a one-year unexpired term.
League president Sandy Bonner said: "This is awareness time for those community members who have questions for the candidates. It's a forum for candidates to respond."
Forum moderator, Glenda Quinn, said the session will be taped for viewing on public access channel 5. The show will broadcast Sunday at 5:30 p.m., March 28 at 6:30 p.m., and March 31 at 5:30 p.m.
