Frozen salaries in the Cape Girardeau School District could begin to thaw.

The Cape Girardeau School Board tonight will consider a total salary increase of 1.24 percent for certified positions -- teachers and administrators -- for the 2011-12 school year. Teachers would receive a combined 2.53 percent raise, and administrators would earn 2.38 percent more under the plan. Also on tonight's agenda, a proposed 5-cent increase to the price of school lunches. New tougher federal nutrition guidelines are driving the increase.

The board holds a work session at 5 p.m., with the regular meeting to follow at 6 p.m. at the district office, 301 N. Clark Ave.
