The Cape Girardeau School Board will hold a special work session today to discuss the economics behind its construction and renovation plan.

The district has been considering a bond proposal to fund projects throughout the district.

The district facilities plan outlines nearly $40 million in construction and renovation, including an event stadium and auditorium at the high school.

District officials formed a planning committee and held forums in February to formulate the plan. In October, the district hired a construction management firm to calculate cost estimates and prioritize parts of the plan.

At the Dec. 14 meeting, board members requested more statistics about the increased cost of operating the buildings.

School officials said they plan to approach voters during the April 6 election with a bond issue that will not increase the tax rate.

The board is scheduled to meet again later this month to decide whether to put the issue on the ballot.

The board will meet at 6 p.m. at district administrative offices, 301 N. Clark Ave.
